Yes - our logs are cut the previous winter, stored off the ground to dry during the summer and then cut and stored ready for selling in the autumn. Do bear in mind that even if logs have been seasoned they will contain some moisture (about 20% according to the National Fireplace Association). If you have a dry storage area with a good airflow you can always buy logs from us from May onwards and season them yourself.
We coppice our own wood from woodlands within 10 miles of Milford, Surrey.
Yes we do. All the wood that we sell is hardwood, which is better for burning and gives off more heat than softwood. In any of our loads you can expect to receive a mixture of hardwoods including ash, hazel and birch. A mixture is helpful because different woods burn at different rates.
We deliver by the truck load, which is 1.2 cubic meters. This equates to about 380-400 logs. We deliver free of charge within a few miles of Milford. Alternatively you can visit us to buy and collect bags of logs (there are about 12 logs to a bag).
You may need to ask us for smaller sized logs. Most of our logs are 10 inches (25.4cm) in length but we can supply smaller logs or cut them to size – most log burners take 9-10 inch logs. We will also put chestnut in your load, which burns very well but cannot be used in open fires so easily as it can ‘spit’ when it burns.
Yes, we sell kindling by the bag and you can order this to be delivered at the same time as your load of logs. The kindling is softwood, which is easier to light and burns quickly making it ideal for starting your fire.
Wood is considered a ‘green’ fuel. The tree when growing absorbs carbon and releases it when it is burnt, so it is termed “carbon neutral”.
